Social Startup Labs
Where Startups Are Born
Social Startup Labs are standalone, 1-day workshops at which local enterprise ideas are generated and acted upon. Participants collectively identify opportunities for enterprise, based on existing local unused/underused assets (skills, resources, materials).
With the support of LCL Facilitators, they explore how these unused assets can brought to bear against unmet local needs for products and services. These identified opportunities take the form of fledgling startups.
The events bring together a diverse range of local actors and stakeholders:
- public sector
- private sector
- third sector
- skills camps participants.
As part of our Startup Brixton Programme we ran two Social Startup Labs. The programme has now finished. The details below are for reference purposes only. Feel free to use any of this material if helpful.

How We Marketed the Social Startup Labs Event — This is the flyer we usedAs you can see the challenge was to appeal to a large cross section of the community. We knew that it would be very difficult for people to understand what it was. We had to focus on the benefits they would get from attending.
